2020-2021 SICC Indigenous Languages & Cultures Program

 (Formerly the Aboriginal Languages Initiative - ALI)

SICC is pleased to announce that the Indigenous Languages and Cultures (ILC) Program in Saskatchewan formerly known as the Aboriginal Languages Initiative (ALI) is NOW OPEN for applications! ILC is a Canadian Heritage funding program administered by the Saskatchewan Indigenous Culture Centre (SICC).

The deadline for applications is Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 11:59pm.  

ILC is a Canadian Heritage funding program administered by the Saskatchewan Indigenous Culture Centre (SICC) for Saskatchewan applicants.  SICC is responsible to oversee the management and administration of the ILC programming element in a fair, open and transparent manner that respects the ILC application requirements.

First Nation organizations in British Columbia must apply through the First Peoples’ Cultural Council: http://www.fpcc.ca/language/Programs/ALI.aspx
First Nation organizations in Ontario must apply through the First Nations Confederacy of Cultural Education Centres: http://fnccec.ca/
First Nations organizations that are outside of Saskatchewan, Ontario or British Columbia must apply directly to the Department of Canadian Heritage: https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/funding/aboriginal-peoples/languages.html

The Indigenous Languages and Cultures Program (ILC) in Saskatchewan aims to support community-based projects that contribute to the strengthening of Indigenous cultural identity as well as preservation and revitalization of Indigenous languages for the benefit of Indigenous peoples in Saskatchewan with flexibility and responsiveness to the broad range of community needs, goals, and priorities.

There are four streams of ILC projects. Applicants can address one stream as the main focus of their activity or a combination of up to 3 project streams. The eligible project types are:

  • Community Based Language Projects
  • Mentor and Apprentice
  • Language Resource Development
  • Cultural Development

Please note that the program criteria for ILC have changed from previous years. Applicants are strongly urged to review the Program Guidelines and Application Questions for more information prior to beginning an application.
